Dedication scheduled

A Christian service of dedication is being planned for the Tapia home at 1641Highland Court on Saturday, October 3 at 2 PM. The service will begin at the home, and then an ice cream social will follow at the Assembly of God church at 1602 E. Washington Street, Washington. Pastor Cluney will share the slides he took during the build at the ice cream social. We hope that volunteers, cooks, businesses, Building Club members, previous Habitat homeowners and the community will join us to celebrate the completion of our 16th home in the Washington area. If you have questions or would like to donate pies or bars to the ice cream social, contact Lynette Sievers at 319-653-6945.

Dedication postponed

At tonight's Board meeting it was determined that there are too many outstanding bills to determine the mortgage amount plus get the closing paperwork completed before the 19th. So, we are pushing back the date for the home dedication and volunteer recognition until the weekend of October 3th/4th. This is also tentative depending on bills and our lawyer having the time to process all the paperwork. Some key Board members were not able to attend tonight's meeting and we need to speak with them before deciding whether Saturday or Sunday will be picked. We are planning a dessert/ice cream social at a nearby church following the dedication. Stay tuned to this blogspot for final details. Volunteers who signed in at the site should also receive a note in the mail prior to the dedication ceremony. Thank you for your patience! We need to make sure this part of the housing process is done according to the letter of the law

As things wind down at the building site, we want volunteers to know about the upcoming dedication service. It is tentatively planned for the late afternoon of Saturday, Sept.19th. Before that can happen, bills need to be in -and paid- so that the amount of the mortgage can be determined and the paperwork for the closing needs to be completed with the lawyer. So, while it may look like things have stalled out, very important things are being done behind the scenes to make sure everything is done correctly in time for Isabel to close on her family's new home. We hope many, many of the volunteers will come to the dedication ceremony. Over 100 volunteers signed waivers to work on the house this year. We may not have a big bus to move (like on Extreme Home Makeovers), but our services are very moving and we give the glory to God and ask for his blessings on this home and the family. We plan to have a meal after the dedication and give out some awards to volunteers and watch the slide show of the 600+ pictures that were taken during this year's build. So, watch this site for details, and watch your mail. We hope you can all join in with the celebration.

In His Service,
Lynette
